Another area out of my expertise, but to my knowledge many speaks far from their expertise and some even claim to have the expertise.
First, the definition of the word and use for sustainability.
According to Wikipedia, “Sustainability is the capacity to endure in a relatively ongoing way across various domains of life.” Very good summarization of the word.
So, what you take you also give back to make a cycle that can continue for many millenniums.
Bit of the cycle in Disney’s Lion King from 94, where Mufasa explains to Simba they eat what they need, and when they die their bodies will become the earth that who they hunted can eat from. Think it is much more complex than that, but for a child’s mind it’s a perfect first step for sustainability and not to over consume.
And there we have it over consumption is what we humans are expert of, making a system of it even, I do believe animals and insects do the same, and some even by a system. But humans do it still knowing it’s affected on our environment and future, real stupidity.
What can we do? Solar, wind, and many more renewable energies that is something that is not taken from something, more use its potential. Yes, that would be a good start, we already started but many are working against it because of loss on revenue on their current exploitation.
If this was not the case and all humans put their resource and sharing of all land and knowledge, we could do something that would have an effect. A few homes that use solar panels are far from enough, it’s more a poor proof of concept. But they who have it, they are at least trying. So, for me the solution is not in the techniques we have today and the effort we do to make our living sustainable.
Instead, I would attack capitalism and the society we live in where we look up to a few successful than try to make others around us successful and to let them play around with our own ideas to improve, make them into a reality.
This would be the first step into making our world sustainable by changing society and then after that our techniques which will be accelerated faster to be improved.
I should not speak of this as I live as bad as everyone else looking at our own downfall and taking part in it. But it feels good to rant sometimes.
